Name confirmed for the Thames pedestrian and cycle bridge at Reading

The pedestrian and cycle bridge over the River Thames which was designed in collaboration with Peter Brett Associates has been formally named following a public vote. Opened in September, it links Caversham with Reading Station and the town centre. It has been named Christchurch Bridge after Christchurch Meadows where it lands on the Caversham side. Both are named after Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford which was owned by Reading businessman Joseph Fiddler. It was later conveyed to the Corporation of Reading. The BBC news article can be read here.

Christchurch Bridge recently picked up a commendation at the Civic Trust Awards.
