Matthew Vowels \ Senior Architect

Matthew joined Design Engine in 2010 after studying Architecture at the University of Bath, graduating with First Class Honours from both the Undergraduate and Masters degrees. During his Architectural education, Matthew was the recipient of numerous prizes and awards; culminating in his work being nominated for the RIBA Silver Presidents Medal.

Prior to joining Design Engine, Matthew has gained broad professional experience with a number of award-winning practices across the UK, including Sanei+Hopkins Architects in London and FCB Studios in Bath. Matthew also has a keen interest in teaching, and in 2012 returned to the University of Bath to lead a 1st Year Studio Group.

Since joining Design Engine, Matthew has gained significant experience in both the education and housing sectors. Most notably, Matthew plays a key role in the team that is delivering a new 660 place Secondary School and sports centre for the Guernsey State Education Department. Also, in his time at Design Engine, Matthew has taken numerous housing schemes through Planning and Listed Building Consent.

Matthew has excellent organisational and design skills and is developing a keen interest in the coordination, detailed design development and delivery side of projects.

Within the wider office setting, Matthew is a member of the IT/ CAD group and co-ordinates the practice’s weekly lecture series, known internally as ‘Feedback’
