Ben joined Design Engine in Summer of 2023 after studying the BArch at Nottingham Trent University, graduating with First Class Honours.
At University Ben developed a keen interest for retrofitting and adaptive re-use. His final year project ‘A Weaving Continuum’ Highlighted the importance of craftsmanship and connection to site narrative, reintroducing the Lace Trade back into the prior industrial city of Nottingham where it’s global prevalence began. Through the creation of a lace factory adjacent to the River Trent. The project aimed to showcase the importance of hand craft in a consumerist world devoid of such, and additionally highlighted the rich industrial and trading history of the area. For his work, Ben was awarded the BArch Best Drawing award by Maber.
Alongside his undergraduate degree Ben has also undertaken several architecture internships at award winning firms across the London and Kent areas, gaining valuable in-office and on-site experience across a wide variety of project typologies.
