Lottie joined Design Engine in 2021 for a placement period, whilst studying at the University of Edinburgh, before returning after graduating with a First Class Honours.

Her dissertation project involved a study into understandings of salutogenesis in relation to architectural design and socio-environmental influences on health and well-being. She carried out an in-depth study into Maggie’s Centres and how they demonstrate principles for ‘salutogenic architecture’ to translate beyond the healthcare sector. Lottie has always enjoyed model-making as a medium for developing a design through the scales, as well as learning about the practicalities associated with specific building uses and how this can influence design, so that form and function are closely interlinked.

Lottie is now undertaking her Part 2 at the University of Westminster where she is exploring the potential for the reuse of waste materials in construction, whilst working on a Live Project on the River Lea in London.
