Richard joined Design Engine in the Autumn of 2023 after graduating with a BA Hons in Architecture from the Oxford School of Architecture at Oxford Brookes.
In his final year, Richard’s design project focused on the asymmetric relationship between humans and nature, and furthermore, the preservation of knowledge in an ever-destructive environment. Taking the form of a Botanic Library, it was further used to explore how a narrative could be translated into architecture by creating unique metaphorical design rules, which would inform the design process. The project was nominated by Oxford Brookes for the AJ student prize and the RIBA Bronze award.
Exploring the connection between the city and farm, Richard’s dissertation analysed the physical separation of agriculture and urban areas, as well as how the natural human habit of standardisation and stabilisation is incompatible with nature’s rules of diversification and dynamism.
